Whistler BC Winter Fun

It’s hard to believe that winter in the Pacific Northwest is just around the corner.  The spring and summer have been dry and sunny so it seems almost impossible that soon the weather will turn cooler and the mountains will again have fresh snow-fall. So in a way I suppose that you could blame me for being a little early when it comes to dreaming about snow.  Except that I’ve noticed that there are a number of others looking to the Northwest Ski Areas page here on Washington State Tours as well. So perhaps it’s time to look ahead into the future a few months and begin thinking about the great ski and board areas around us.

One of top 10 ski resorts in North America!

Let’s Begin with Whistler BC

Whistler BC offers incredible views – this one is at lunch looking over the Whistler Mountain ski runs

As the largest ski resort among the Northwest ski areas, Whistler BC (Whistler-Blackcomb mountains) is the first destination that many travelers from over-seas and from the US and Canada think of when they consider skiing in North America. Offering two distinct mountains that join at the base in Whistler Village, they also offer the incredible feature of joining peak-to-peak with a gondola spanning the distance between the two mountains. Located north of Vancouver BC, about 3 hours from Bellingham Washington or five hours from Seattle Washington, you can get to whistler by flying into airports at either of these three cities. The most direct rout will be to fly into Vancouver International Airport. Whistler is celebrating 50 years over the winter of 2015/2016

When Should I Ski or Board Whistler BC?

whistler-bc-northwest-ski-areasWhistler BC is a popular ski and board destination so it fills quickly for holidays and school breaks.  If you can travel during a non-holiday period you will enjoy less crowds and shorter lift lines.  If you can plan for a mid-week trip you’ll be doing even better!  Planning ahead will get you the best deals at Whistler BC.  Whistler-Blackcomb offers pre-season specials including lodging deals.
