In August 2013 Alan Yanagimachi got an offer to return to California and take over wine making at Monterrey Wine Co. in King City. He had to make a quick decision and decided to close his wine making operations and gift shop in Peshastin.

About the Cascadia Winery prior to its closing:

They focus on providing a spectrum of boutique wines at reasonable prices. Besides traditional wines including Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Riesling, they produce a less common wine, Roussanne. Further, Cascadia is the only winery in the region producing Apple Wine. This is a visitor favorite. The Apple Wine is also a great marinade (4+ hrs) for chicken or pork. Seasoning rubs are optional prior to grilling, baking, or searing and finishing it off in a simmering sauce. They are the only winery in the state producing the “Sakura” Cherry-Merlot dessert wine. Its sole source of 10% sweetness is from 100% cherry juice blended with merlot. Besides dessert, some chefs use Sakura for their personal cooking as an ingredient for steak, pork loin marinade, duck breast, and lamb sauces.

From the owner – I am LIVING the DREAM by having an opportunity to create and share quality wines that promote the NCW wine-growing region and offer lab services to other wineries and wine enthusiasts supporting quality wines.

The wine spark was lit after dining with Robert Mondavi at one of his hosted dinner/jazz concerts at Mondavi Winery in 1983. Buoyed by his suggestion to pursue an education in wine-making, I earned a degree in Fermentation Science/ Enology from the University of California, Davis. From there, I have had the blessing of spending over a decade working in wineries throughout Washington and California, including Arbor Crest Wine Cellars in Spokane, WA, where I met my wife, Lilith. For 18 months I had the unique opportunity of researching the production of wines and brandies while living in the former Soviet Republic of Georgia, one of the oldest wine making regions in the world. This brought me a joy of understanding the value of wine as an essential element of lifestyle.

Two experiences enhanced my passion for wine and the stylistic possibilities. Firstly, for nearly 4 years, I managed the wine program at the highly acclaimed Canlis Restaurant in Seattle. The wine menu’s breadth and diversity in domestic and international wines introduced me to a world of flavors I would otherwise not be able to afford. Secondly, as Director of Winemaking Operations of the Monterey Wine Company, I learned new techniques of winemaking from over a dozen high profile clients and from our own introduction of high technology approaches.

Thank you for sharing my dream… Alan Yanagimachi, Winemaker/Owner
