Café Nordo is proud to present "The Champagne Widow" at Nordo’s Culinarium in historic Pioneer Square. Written by Opal Peachey, composed by Annastasia Workman and directed by Billie Wildrick ("Annie", The 5th Avenue), "The Champagne Widow" will be set in the underground caves of France, where Champagne’s most luxurious bottles of bubbles come to life and sing the stories of the women who made them famous. “Men did not write women’s history and women did not write women’s history. The stories of the widows (or Veuves in French) who made Champagne into the luxury brand it is today are disappearing in the sands of the hour glass,” said playwright and lead performer Opal Peachey. "The Champagne Widow" will tell the unsung stories of businesswomen Barbe Nicole Clicquot Ponsardin, Louise Pommery, Mathilde Laurent-Perrier and Lily Bollinger. Café Nordo integrates food, drink and theater into a multi-sensory audience experience and "The Champagne Widow" will feature a four-course meal inspired by the story of Champagne, included in the ticket price. Available for purchase will be a “Flight of Widows” with four glasses of Champagne, from the houses of Veuve Clicquot, Pommery, Laurent-Perrier and Bollinger. To bring the intersectional feminist message of the production home, Nordo will also offer a “Flight of Women in Wine Today” featuring wines from estates where women of diverse backgrounds hold the CEO title in 2019. Hold on to your hay cart — the fabled trickster Till Eulenspiegel is back at his merry pranks! Join the Grammy-winning Seattle Symphony as Richard Strauss takes us on a wild ride with music’s most lovable troublemaker. The effervescent Oboe Concerto revisits Strauss 50 years later, after he befriended an American soldier and oboe virtuoso in Germany at the end of World War II. Seattle Symphony Principal Oboe Mary Lynch comes front and center for a fresh reading of this alluring showpiece. In "Jeux", Debussy fleshes out a kinetic tableau of tennis and other flirtatious games. The radiant Prelude to Act III of "Lohengrin" shines the spotlight on Wagner and his explosive, futuristic approach to the orchestra that impacted both Strauss and Debussy so profoundly. [less-]

When three women made the pact of solidarity on their summer road trip, no one ever expected that they would soon become the most legendary outlaws in the country. The gang of motorcycle riding, man-eating women known as El Dorado were a fearsome trio of renegades redefining what it meant to be a woman on their own terms with no compromise. How El Dorado found themselves out running the law, robbing corner stores at gunpoint, and seducing their unsuspecting victims while in high heels, fishnets, and nail polish are things legends are made of. With an original Can Can soundtrack featuring the vocal stylings of Seattle’s own Brent Amaker, The Legend of El Dorado showcases performances of original choreography performed by the Can Can Dance Company and a delicious Market-fresh menu. A celebration of the simple beauty of being human, "Tiny Beautiful Things" is based on Cheryl Strayed’s ("Wild") journey as the beloved anonymous advice columnist for "Dear Sugar". Over the years, thousands of people turned to Sugar for words of wisdom, compassion and hope. At first unsure of herself, Sugar finds a way to weave her own life experiences together with the deep yearning and heartrending questions from her readers. This funny and deeply touching exploration of resilience at the Seattle Repertory Theatre was brilliantly adapted for the stage by Nia Vardalos, the Academy Award-nominated writer of "My Big Fat Greek Wedding". "Time Out" said the play “knocks you down with its avalanche of kindness,” and honestly, who couldn’t use an experience like that in their lives? [less-]
